I AM

A very poignant scene in Fahrenheit 451 occurs when Guy Montag realizes how valuable he and his displaced companions are because of their ability to recall certain works of literature. These men no longer represented themselves as independent beings, but rather themselves as a literary work.
The Literate Nerd Society was asked what book they would be able to recall most completely if a situation like the one portrayed in Fahrenheit 451 were to occur. The Literate Nerds, like many of you, were able to choose the book they would represent with little hesitation. Feel free to tell us which book you would be.

What is a Nerd Alert

A Nerd Alert is an alert or message from The Literate Nerd Society (L.N.S.). The Literate Nerd Society (L.N.S) is a teen group based out of the White Mountain Library that is dedicated to promoting literacy among the teenage population in Sweetwater County. We host various events such as Poetry Slams and Writing Contests. We also help with other library events from time to time.

One of the big events we are excited about getting involved in is the One Book/One County community read. We think the best way to get involved is to read Fahrenheit 451! We are encouraging teenagers (and others) all over the county to begin reading Fahrenheit 451 today.

Another way to get involved in the One Book/One County community read is to discuss the book. We will be discussing the book and its themes on this blog and throughout the community from now until the end of February. Watch for our discussions. They will be marked as Nerd Alerts!

Happy Reading Everyone!
