We Need Your Help!

One of the goals of the "One Book, One County" community wide reading program is to get everyone in the county reading the same book at the same time. For this to happen people in the county need to know what the book is and where to obtain a copy. Will you help spread the word?

Because you visited this site you know the book is Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. You also know books are available from the libraries throughout the county. Books are also available for purchase at local books stores. A schedule of book discussions and other events will be posted on this site shortly.

While the planned events and discussions are sure to be great, the real success of the "One Book, One County" reading program is in all the unplanned little discussions that happen between family, friends, neighbors, and community members. The "One Book, One County" planning committee has several stories of these "informal" discussions that took place last year during 2006's "One Book, One County" community read. Let's create an environment where these little discussions can take place again by getting as many people as we can to read Fahrenheit 451. Then we will be able to discuss the book with our dentist, our doctor, our mail carrier, our hair dresser, or anyone else we come in contact with during the month of February. We can begin by spreading the word. Thanks for helping us out!

Invitation to Read

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a book you may have read in high school. If so, you will remember Guy Montag. He is a book-burning fireman undergoing an identity crisis in a society that prefers trivial information to real knowledge and ideas.

Filled with suspense and intrigue, the book is sure to please readers of all ages as it heavily explores censorship and the freedom of ideas, two topics just as relevant today as they were in 1953 when Bradbury first wrote the book.

Whether you are visiting Fahrenheit 451 for the first time or revisiting it after a long break, we invite you to take part in Sweetwater County’s “One Book, One County” program. We are confident you will find the book and the accompanying community discussions and events interesting and engaging.
